The song reached No. 10 on the US Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart, No. 20 on the US Billboard Hot R&B Singles chart and No. 35 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary Songs chart.
Those Earth Wind and Fire albums sold like crazy back then across the board. Despite the revisionist history they were a big pop act not just an R&B act, those albums from 73-81 were multi-platinum albums for the most part except for Faces.

"Reasons" by Earth, Wind and FireListen to Earth, Wind and Fire:
The album rose to No. 8 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 32 on the Billboard 200 chart. Illumination was also Grammy nominated within the category of Best R&B Album. It is the last Earth, Wind & Fire album to feature their founder and co-lead vocalist Maurice White.
The Crown Jewels of the album are "Fan The Fire" (which I believe is their 1st single), "Love Is Life" (which they also recorded as "The Salty Peppers", this one more "Jazzy" though) and the ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC Instrumental "Bad Tune", with "Maurice" showcasing one of my favorite Instruments of all time, the "Kalimba".
